Thomas Plank

Born and raised close to the chiemgau and berchtesgaden alp region I grew up beeing a lot in the mountains and outdoors. One thing led to another and I got into mountaineering, touring and climbing. The joy about beeing in motion induced me to study sports to teach kids in school. Still obsessed with mountains it did not last long until I fully commited myself to evolve my passion to my profession. Since then my focus has been on mountain guide training, teaching in university and managing a mountain sports program for students. Stian Hagen

I grew up skiing in Norway, in my younger years I was a ski jumper and a cross country skier. Then I moved to Chamonix in 1994 and became interested in extreme skiing. I competed on the world tour for a few years, but then I got the chance to film with MSP films. That changed my focus away from competitions. In the last 10 years I have moved my focus more over to Ski touring and travel stories. I am also very involved in developing equipment for my sponsors and love to make the gear we use everyday even better and more functional.

Stefano Gross

Stefano Gross took part in his first World Cup race in December 2008 during a slalom race in Alta Badia. He made his first points in February 2009 in slalom in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. His first podium was in January 2012 with a third place in Adelboden's World Cup slalom and in the same slope he signed his first victory 3 years later. He collected 11 World Cup podiums and one victory in World Cup and he missed by 5 hundredths the Bronze medal at the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi.

Sixtine Cousin

I am Sixtine Cousin and I am 20 years old. I started ski cross 2 years ago and last year was my first world cup. I achieved my best result (7th place) in my second ever World Cup in Arosa.

I finished this season 14th in the skicross WC overall. I did my first World Championship and ended up 19th. The cherry on the cake was to receive the title of rookie of the year. This title is awarded by all the WC trainers for the best new WC athlete. Now I will work to have many other wonderful seasons around the world on my skis.

Sebastian is a Norwegian alpine ski racer. Born in Ålesund, he competed at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, in slalom where he placed 9th.

Sam Smoothy

Sam Smoothy is from New Zealand and is already one of the biggest names in the Freeride circuit. He has been competing on the Freeride World Tour since 2011 and has claimed many podium spots since then including two victories in Chamonix 2012 and Fieberbrunn 2014, finishing fourth overall on the FWT 2012 and runner-up in 2014 and 3rd at Andorra in 2015. But Sam Smoothy is much more than a competition skier. He is filming for elite ski movie production like Legs of Steel and is a guest writer for various ski magazines around the globe.

He has recently been getting more into rock climbing, with some ice climbing and getting more into ski mountaineering but with a more freeride approach to skiing lines fast.

Besides skiing Sam Smoothy loves surfing, but he mainly has to do this in the chilly waves of the New Zealand winter, since he rarely spends the Southern Hemisphere summers in his hometown Wanaka. Instead, he is chasing the powder all around the world and preferably in the European Alps, where he has adopted Verbier as a second hometown. No wonder Sam Smoothy has developed an outstanding skiing style that fully lives up to his last name.

Sam Maes

I was born in Antwerp, Belgium, but moved to Zell am See, Austria in December 2000. I started skiing at 2,5 years old and joined Ski Club Zell am See at the age of 6, where I competed in my first races. During my childhood I was attracted to all sort of sports. In addition to my skiing, there were also successes in football, tennis and golf. I went to school at the Sports Gymnasium in Saalfelden, Austria. During the last 5 years I had the chance to be part of the Ski gymmnasium, where I was able to combine school and my sportive ambitions. At the age of 15 I decided to concentrate myself exclusively on skiing, winter and summer. In 2017 I got my High School Diploma (Matura). At the moment I'm studying Engineering at Bad Reichenhall University.

Øystein Bråten

It seems as if Norway breeds freestyle talent, whether they are on one or two planks. Øystein Bråten decided on the path of two planks early on, while his brother went for snowboarding. Together they shredded homemade setups in their garden, and this dedication most definitely paid off, as both are professional athletes in their chosen field. Growing up in the small village of Torpo, between the famous ski areas Hemsedal and Geilo, Øystein quickly found his way into the Norwegian freeski scene and his ascent to the top began. In 2010 and 2011 he became Norwegian champion in Slopestyle and this year he won the X Games Gold in Aspen and X Games GOLD in Noway. At just 22 years old, he is considered one of the biggest talents in the international freeski scene.

Nick Goepper

It is the quintessential American success story. A boy from a small town sets out to conquer the world. The boy in this case is Nick Goepper and the small town goes by the name Lawrenceburg, Indiana. Although Nick grew up in a rather flat, Midwestern area, he started skiing by the age of five and was captivated. By the age of 15, he went to the West Coast to try his luck as a freeskier. Soon he proved to be one of the most talented freestylers of his generation and began to make his presence felt at slopestyle competitions across the US. In 2011.

12-season Nick bagged several podiums including a silver medal at X Games. The following year he stepped up his game to win X Games Gold and in 2014 he managed to repeat this feat. At the biggest event yet in the history of the sport, the Winter Olympics 2014, Nick delivered what might have been the most technical run in freeskiing yet, however it was only good enough for the Bronze medal. Nevertheless, he became a big media star as part of the US podium sweep in men's slopestyle, only the third for the country at the Winter Olympics in history.

Nadine Wallner

Nadine Wallner stems from the small village of Klosterle just west of the famous Arlberg region in Western Austria, where she still lives today. Thus one could say that Nadine is a natural born freerider. In her childhood years she honed her skiing skills as an alpine racer, but her father, a local mountain guide, took her out into the backcountry early on and set the tone for the years to come. Despite being only 23 years old, Nadine already holds a full degree as an Austrian Ski Instructor. Even more surprising is her impressive list of success at freeride competitions, though. While it normally takes big mountain freeriders several years to build up enough experience and confidence to be successful, Nadine Wallner won her first freeride competition 2011 and went on to win the Freeride World Qualifier events in Nendaz and at the Kitzsteinhorn 2012. Her real motivation for the lifestyle of a professional freerider, however, is her love for nature and mountains and therefore Nadine looks forward to travel the world for film and photo shoots just as much as competing on the Freeride World Tour this season. Markus Salcher

Markus Salcher is an Austrian alpine skier and Paralympic Champion. The Austrian carries alpine skiing in his blood. His father was a coach of the Austrian team at Torino 2006 and his brother Moritz also competes in alpine skiing for an Austrian sports club.

Due to the sportive background of his family, Markus's first attempts on skis were undertaken early in life. At the age of only three years, the first turns on skis were carved into the snow. The local ski club (SV Tröpolach in the Nassfeld skiing area) and his family helped to develop a solid skiing technique as well as a passion for the sport early on. The first racing experiences were gained at the age of five when Markus began to compete in local skiing cups against non-disabled age-peers. Even though these first races were not overly successful, the motivation to pursue a professional career as a skier did not wane. The first contacts to the field of professional disabled sports were made during the winter of 2000. Since the 2003 / 2004 winter season Markus has been an active athlete member of various teams of the Austrian Skiing Federation (SV). In addition to Markus's personal ambition and self-motivation, the Sports-High School (SSLK Klagenfurt) needs to be credited with a big share in the development of the young athlete's personal and athletic skills, from first semi-professional training programs to the acceptance into Austria's National Skiing Team. He competed in the 2014 Winter Paralympics in Sochi, Russia, where he won two gold medals and one bronze medal as well as two bronze medals in Pyeongchang 2018.

Markus Eder

Markus Eder is the first Italian new school freestyler to reach international recognition.

At first sight, Markus Eder is a typical Italian from Southern Tyrol. He was born in Bruneck and raised in Luttach in the nearby Ahrntal valley, where he still lives today. He started skiing at the age of four, was an alpine racer for many years and enjoys rock climbing in the summer. He even loves pizza and ice-cream. However, a few winters back something diverted his typically Italian path. He discovered freeskiing! Five years later Markus Eder is the first Italian new school freestyler to reach international recognition becoming the Freeride World Tour Champion in 2019.

My name is Lyman Currier, I'm a 22 year old freeskier from Boulder, CO. I was lucky enough to grow up in an extremely active city, so close to the mountains, which really solidified my love for the outdoors at a young age. My father, an Olympic skier himself, took me out on the slopes for my first time at the ripe age of 18 months. Little did we know he had sparked the addiction that lives inside all skiers and snowboarders alike, an addiction to deep pow, testing the limits of air and speed, and being outside with your friends on the coldest winter days. The freedom of being on the slopes is unmatched by anything and no matter what life has thrown your way, you can always find a clear mind at the top of the mountain. I am incredibly grateful to be able to call this amazing sport my profession and I can't wait for all the outdoor adventures to come!

Kye Petersen

A Freeskier born and raised on the Coastal Mountains of BC. Originally honing his skills at his home mountains of Whistler and Blackcomb. As a kid and over time making his way across the globe and deep into the backcountry in search of new and exciting terrain allowing him to push the boundaries of backcountry, freestyle, freeride and big mountain all molded together into one package.

Now at the age of 32 Kye has been skiing professionally for 20 years. He has skied numerous first descents on peaks from British Columbia to Alaska and has been on the forefront of progressing freeride skiing in film, photos and competitions well over a decade and going strong. Kevin Rolland

Kevin Rolland is one of the world's most accomplished pipe skiers and the leader of the French SuperPipe revolution, Rolland owns a grand total of nine X Games medals including Gold in 2016, 2011, and 2010. Known as the "Flying Frenchman" he is a progressive risk taker with a killer work ethic that helps him stay at the top, year after year. Rolland also took home bronze from the 2014 Olympics in men's half-pipe and was a 2011 ESPY Award nominee for Best Male Action Sports Athlete.

54m vertical). I remember our first family trip to Colorado and it was pure magic. That magic has never diminished for me. I started racing at age nine and made the US Ski Team at 15 years old. After ten years racing internationally and competing in the Torino and Vancouver Olympics, I retired from the World Cup in 2010. I wanted to explore the mountains without gates and courses dicating where and when I could turn. Post racing I fell even deeper in love with skiing when I discovered the beauty and adventure of the backcountry. As a reincarnated big-mountain skier, I get to travel to some of the most staggering corners of the world to do what I love and what makes it even better is that I get to share those experiences with others. I am one lucky girl.

My name is Jean Tonnelier. I have been skiing since I was 3 years old. I first started downhill skiing in a club until I was 14. For 3 years now, I have been practicing Freeride skiing in competition. I ski in La Clusaz all season with my coach Seb Michaud. I also travel all winter to different resorts to participate in the stages of the Freeride Junior tour. For the future I would like to see myself doing more steep descents.

Born and raised in a ski resort in Sälen, Sweden I have been skiing all my life. My first time on skis was at the age of two and I've loved it as long as I can remember. I started of as an alpine racer but when I was eight both me and my little brother took interest in freeskiing and we started training with the local ski club. We spend all our free time in the slopes having fun and learning new tricks. Besides skiing I like to play soccer, skateboarding and hanging out with friends and family. I also spend a lot of time studying because I'm away from school at lots of competitions and training camps. My family, school and ski club are very supportive and they help me a lot which I am very thankful for.

Ingrid Backstrom

The American has set the standard of the sport for girls in recent years with outstanding video segments, a benchmark that still remains untouched.

It wasn't obvious in her youth, that Ingrid would go this way. While growing up in Seattle, she was skiing often in the surrounding areas, but when she went to Squaw Valley after graduating from college in 2000, she only intended to do one year of skibumming.

It all began with some freeride contests, where the trail running fan did very well despite not being the typical competition type. Her skiing caught the eye of video producers Matchstick Productions and in 2004 she entered the scene with a bang. Her incredible segment in MSP’s “Yearbook” earned her Powder Video Awards both for “Best Female Performance” and “Breakthrough Performance”. In the following years Ingrid kept pushing her limits, straightlining whole AK faces, dropping big cliffs with front- or backflips, simply doing things that before only men would do while skiing big mountains. Ingrid Backstrom has legitimised to call female skiers real big mountain rippers, and is far from being finished!

Ian McIntosh

Ian McIntosh has built up a reputation over the last few years as a bit of a charger.

than failure ever will."

His ability on skis doesn't really come as much of a surprise when you look at his background. Ian's entire family is ski mad, and growing up in the Kootenays in British Columbia, Ian had no shortage of ski days. Even today his 82-year-old grandfather is still teaching! Immersed in the race scene from an early age, it is easy to see where he got both his love for speed and his technical ability.
However, Ian always found himself drawn to the powder and really broke into the scene after heading to New Zealand to do a winter season. Here he entered the World Heli Challenge and met a fellow Canadian, Pierre Yves LeBlanc who persuaded him to try a season in Whistler. Ian did exactly that and tried his hand at Big Mountain competitions, culminating in second place at the Verbier Xtreme 2004. This opened up the chance to film with industry leaders TGR in 2005, and Ian scored the opening segment in "Anomaly" at first go. Ever since he has been a regular in TGR's groundbreaking movies. In the Summer, Ian McIntosh can be found mountain biking near Pemberton, B.C.

I am a 20-year-old Freeskier from Flims-Laax in Switzerland. I finished my education as a metalworker this year. My friends and family are also deeply involved in freesking and therefore I have been able always to go skiing mostly with them. I started skiing with two years and have been skiing since. My first twintips I received when I was ten years old and never changed back to normal skies. I love freeskiing in the winter and in the summer my passion is downhill biking. In freeskiing my main discipline is Freeride and since I won the junior world championships with 18 years, it gave me even more motivation to concentrate into this discipline.

I'm a 17 year old kid from Wanaka, New Zealand that simply loves to ski. My dad is a heli-ski guide and also an Avalanche Safety Instructor while my Mum is a midwife who also loves to ski! Therefore, skiing has been a huge part of my life from the get-go. It started as just a family activity but as I got older, my brother Hank and I started pushing each other even harder. Being the younger sibling I've always strived to beat my older brother in all aspects of life. The rivalry I shared with my brother transferred into competitions and I think it's really helped me to become a better competitor.

These day's I'm lucky enough to travel around the world competing with the New Zealand National Freeski Team following my dream. Coming from New Zealand I'm away from home for about 5-6 months of the year which is hard being away from friends and family but I wouldn't change it for the world. From a young age this what I've always wanted and I'm so thankful to be able to live the dream.
I hope to compete in the Olympics and X-Games some day and be considered one of the worlds best whilst pushing the sport in a positive direction. Yeeew!
